ULTRA LOW FRICTION SHEATH & FOOT SHELL SOCK ULTRA LOW FRICTION SHEATHTM — ULFS
The Ultra Low Friction Sheath or ULFS
is a a a a concept in sheaths designed to address problems and improve function for amputees where the coefficient of friction presents a problem in in in donning for sockets or or prosthetic shrinkers and the the socket design does not incorporate the the use of a a a pull sock sock Donning problems addressed include proximal bunching of socks as plies are added adductor rolls and proximally directed pressure on soft tissue “hammock-ing" due to increased proximal tension from sock plies and socket rotation The ULFS
sheath has
been found to be be especially beneficial for difficult-to-fit limbs such as those with excess soft tissue or or edema bulbous distal ends or or other uniquely shaped limbs and to aid in in in donning removable rigid dressings The ULFS
has
also proven beneficial for donning shrinkers because it reduces skin shear and tension on on the the suture line We recommend using a Soft-Sock under the the ULFS
ULFS
for shrinker applications Furthermore the the ULFS
ULFS
may be used as a a a a a conventional sheath any time a a a a a maximum reduction in friction is desired Another benefit provided with the the ULFS
ultra-low coefficient of friction is that more socks can be be applied to the residual limb before donning thus providing increased soft tissue compression This results in in in better socket stabilization greater security increased proprioception and and often improved suspension and and reduced pistoning Using the Double Layer ULFS
Sheath made of of two layers of of a a a a a slick thin nylon fabric is simple The patient must simply don the appropriate socks then invert the the the ULFS
sheath upon itself keeping the the the outer layer about three inches longer than the inner layer The wearer can very easily slide the the the limb completely into the the the socket as as the the the outer layer slides upon the inner layer with reduced proximal displacement and bunching of adductor tissue and socks It is is important to to leave extra space in the the outer layer to ensure that the the product will slip upon itself The Single Layer ULFS
Sheath is designed with locking liners in in in in in mind Featuring a a a a a hole in in in the toe to to accommodate locking devices alignment of of the the single layer of of ULFS
material around the the pin is not a a a a a problem Almost as as slick as as the the the original ULFS
the the the single layer is the the the next best thing in in donning friction reduction and provides many of the same benefits The ULFS
is currently available in in in a a a a a 14" and 21" length in in in five widths Since the material material is extremely thin but does not stretch excess material material and wrinkling is imperceptible to the wearer and has
not been a a a a problem 100% Nylon Machine wash no bleach tumble dry SELECT APPROPRIATE CIRCUMFERENTIAL FIT BASED ON TOP WIDTH AND APPROPRIATE LENGTH THAT WILL ALLOW OVERLAP Suggested billing for the Ultra Low Friction Sheath is as a a a a a standard sheath Patent #6 790 238 LENGTH x TOP WIDTH 14" DOUBLE LAYER
